
JIM CHAPMAN'S BIOGRAPHY

Vincent James "Jim" Chapman was born in Texas, spent most of his childhood years growing up in Arkansas, and his college years in Louisiana; all of which had an unequivocal influence on his musical development.
Now, for more than twenty years, he has made the Houston Metropolitan area his home, and headquarters for his music business.

Jim is an accomplished music professional who performs the standards in jazz, big band, pop, rock, blues, and country. As a singer and musician, Jim has more than twenty years of experience on the professional circuit.
As a lead vocalist, Jim has fronted some of the very best dance bands, and big band orchestras in America. Just as impressive, is the fact that Jim has proven his versatility performing in units ranging from a solo act, to duos, to dance groups, to twenty-piece BIG BAND ORCHESTRAS.
Jim was featured numerous times on Houston PBS's (KUHT) WeekNight Edition program, as the lead vocalist backed by Billy Ledbetter's twenty-piece big band orchestra. Over the years, Jim has performed on literally countless stages, events, and venues from coast to coast. Many people are surprised to learn that in addition to being a great singer, Jim is also an excellent trombonist; and you can hear him play trombone on All Of Me (trombone solo), Misty, Just A Gigolo, and Teach Me Tonight, on Jim's recordings. Jim has received numerous awards as a trombonist, including the Outstanding Soloist Award at the annual GCIC Jazz Festival in Houston; for his trombone solo on Someone To Watch Over Me.

Jim is well trained and well educated, having studied music, beginning at eight years old. He has studied with many well respected and accomplished educators, including Raymond G. Young, Lawrence Gibbs, Dr. Daniel Pittman, and Dr. Edmund Winston. In addition, Jim earned a Bachelors and two Master's degrees from Louisiana Tech University.

Lastly, Jim has performed with many great musicians, artists, and entertainers including: Bob Hope, Carl Fontana, The Billy Ledbetter Big Band Orchestra, Woody Witt, Mark Holter, Third Coast Swing Big Band Orchestra, Tyler Big Band Orchestra, Joe "Guitar" Hughes, Phillip Lawrence (from Paper Lace), Ray Davidson (Gene Krupa Big Band), JP Daine, and many other bands and accomplished music professionals.
